WHEAT IMPORTS REACH HIGHEST VOLUME SINCE 2007

A favorable exchange rate and extended reduced export taxes in Argentina led Brazilian wheat imports to reach 3 million tons between January and May 2025 — the highest volume for the period since 2007, with 72% from Argentina. Imports became the main supply source for mills, as domestic trade remained slow and prices dropped. In Rio Grande do Sul, wheat sold at R$70.04 per sack after a 4% drop, while Paraná saw a 2% decrease. Many producers postponed sales, expecting better prices. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall delayed planting of the new crop in southern Brazil, with only 39% of the area sown by late June — below last year’s 55%.
