WHEAT IMPORTS IN 2024 NEARLY EQUAL TOTAL VOLUME IMPORTED THROUGHOUT 2023

Brazil’s wheat imports in 2024 are almost equal to the total volume imported in all of 2023, with over 4 million tonnes brought in during the first seven months of the year, according to Cepea. Over the past 12 months, a record 5.7 million tonnes of wheat arrived at Brazilian ports, the highest since December 2022, per Secex. Low domestic availability is driving these imports, with Conab estimating that July 2024’s final stocks would last less than three weeks. This influx has reduced domestic prices, with the Cepea/Esalq index showing a 1.99% drop in prices in Rio Grande do Sul.
