VLI REDUCES FUEL CONSUMPTION IN THE NORTHERN CORRIDOR BY 8,6%

VLI, a logistics company operating railways, ports, and terminals, achieved an 8.6% reduction in fuel consumption along its Northern Corridor, connecting Tocantins to Maranhão ports, avoiding 1.3 million liters of diesel and 3 million tons of CO₂ emissions, according to its 2024 Sustainability Report. The improvement results from operational optimization, energy efficiency measures, and the use of the Leader system on locomotives, which enables semi-autonomous driving above 8 km/h, optimizing acceleration, braking, and power consumption. Energy efficiency on the North-South Railway improved from 1.66 to 1.51 liters/ktkb with Leader-equipped trains. Over 80% of the Northern Corridor already uses the system, and VLI plans to expand its application to the Southeast and East Corridors of the Central-Atlantic Railway, potentially reducing fuel consumption by 7% by the end of next year. The initiative aligns with VLI’s commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions per ton transported by 15% by 2030.
