UNPRECEDENTED CONCESSION ANNOUNCED FOR DREDGING IN BRAZIL’S LARGEST PORT CHANNELS

The Brazilian government plans to transfer control of the access channels to five major ports – Paranáguá (PR), Itajaí (SC), Santos (SP), Rio Grande (RS), and Salvador (BA) -to the private sector through auctions scheduled for 2025 and 2026. With long-term contracts, the idea is to ensure services including dredging, rockfall, signaling, and environmental control, therefore aiming at greater certainty and lower running costs. Investments in Paranaguá are expected to be BRL 1.07 billion, while in Itajaí BRL 2.71 billion. With a total investment of BRL 8.7 billion, the government plans to hold auctions for 22 terminals by the end of 2025. Research and concession notices are already underway.
