Amid the announcement of a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods by U.S. President Donald Trump, set to begin on August 1, Brazilian exporters rushed to ship products through the Port of Santos. Containerized animal protein exports surged 96% last week, led by beef, pork, chicken, and offal. Coffee exports to the U.S. rose 17%, and pulp shipments resumed with 49,400 tonnes exported. Truck traffic at the port jumped 70%. The U.S. is Brazil’s second-largest trade partner, and the tariff threat has raised concerns. Meanwhile, June saw record beef exports, with the U.S. increasing purchases by over 85% in volume. Meatpackers fear severe losses in the second half of 2025 due to canceled orders.
