TRUCK YARD TO BE BUILT IN SANTOS REGION WITH BILLION-DOLLAR INVESTMENT

The Santos Port Authority (APS) will tender a prime area on Ilha do Tatu on July 10 for a logistics condominium and truck regulatory yard, requiring over R$3 billion in private investment. Concerns arise among local truck drivers about potential traffic bottlenecks. Edson Elias Celestino, president of the Cubatão Truck Drivers Association, worries about increased traffic and insufficient local benefits. Conversely, Luciano Carvalho of Sindicam sees potential for efficient port traffic regulation. The public-private partnership will transfer a 530,000 square meter Union area, with 100,000 square meters for the truck yard and logistics facilities, offering 800 parking spaces. Cubatão Mayor Ademário Oliveira and the City Council oppose the project, citing negative impacts on 60,000 residents.
