THE STATE OF ALAGOAS RANKS AS THE LARGEST PRODUCER OF ETHANOL IN BRAZIL’S NORTHEAST

Brazil achieved a biofuel production record in 2023, producing approximately 42 billion liters of ethanol and biodiesel, a 15.5% increase in ethanol production. Alagoas stood out as the largest producer in the Northeast region, occupying the seventh position in the national ranking with 512 million liters of ethanol. Good soybean and sugarcane harvests, along with price instability in gasoline, have boosted demand for ethanol. The state’s success in biofuel production can be linked to the great productivity and efficiency of mills in Alagoas, according to Pedro Robério Nogueira, president of Sindaçúcar-AL.
