Facing recurring water shortages, the Government of São Paulo launched the Irriga+SP credit line in 2025 to expand irrigation and protect agricultural output and food security in São Paulo. Operated by São Paulo Agribusiness Expansion Fund (Feap) with Desenvolve SP, the program has invested R$56 million and supported over 8,000 hectares. Financing covers modern irrigation systems, renewable energy, precision agriculture, and water management solutions. Authorities say irrigation is now essential for climate resilience, production stability, and rural income. Research from the Agronomic Institute (IAC) complements these efforts, developing water-efficient technologies and early-cycle crops that can cut irrigation use by up to 20%, helping producers maintain productivity while reducing resource consumption.
