Ethanol stocks held by mills in Brazil’s Center-South region fell sharply in early 2026, widening the gap compared to last year. On January 16, producers held 6.18 billion liters, down 20.2% from the same date in 2025, with the decline intensifying from 19.7% at the start of the month. Over a two-week period, inventories dropped 12.6%, or 888.8 million liters, a movement expected due to the end of the sugarcane crushing season. Data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) also showed that São Paulo — the country’s largest biofuel producer and consumer — recorded 3.25 billion liters in stock, a 20.8% year-on-year decrease.
