TEREOS BETS ON BIO-INPUTS TO ACCELERATE GOALS AND ACHIEVES SAVINGS OF R$ 50 PER HECTARE

Tereos, celebrating 25 years in Brazil, has been cutting costs and raising sugarcane productivity by replacing part of its chemical inputs with biological solutions and adopting digital and precision technologies since 2018. According to COO Everton Carpanezi, the shift—done in partnership with Koppert—has saved R$50 per hectare and improved pest control, especially against the sugarcane weevil. Today, 70% of fields use bio-inputs in an integrated management model. The company also invests in real-time monitoring to reduce diesel use and operates with 100% renewable energy from sugarcane bagasse. Challenges remain, including droughts and fires that damaged crops, and the need to expand irrigation and supply-chain traceability. Currently, 67% of processed sugarcane is considered sustainable, with a 2030 goal of 75%. Tereos is also studying diversification into corn ethanol to leverage existing milling capacity.
