SUGARCANE PRODUCTION IN THE NORTH-NORTHEAST EXCEEDS 59 MILLION TONS IN THE 2023/24 HARVEST

In the 2023/24 period, sugarcane crushing in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions totaled 59.71 million tons, a 2.72% decrease from the previous year’s 61.38 million tons, according to NovaBio. Despite this, production of hydrated ethanol and sugar rose by 7.23% and 3.19%, respectively. Hydrated ethanol reached 1.15 billion liters, and sugar production hit 3.46 million tons. Anhydrous ethanol production dropped by 15.09% due to unstable fuel pricing policies. Total ethanol production (anhydrous and hydrated) was 2.21 billion liters, down from 2.32 billion liters last year. Data issues with the Sapcana system delayed the update of the final harvest figures, now available on the Ministry of Agriculture’s website.
