SUGAR SHIPMENTS THROUGH THE PORT OF SANTOS TOTAL 12 MILLION TONS IN THE SEMESTER, AN INCREASE OF 48.6%

The Port of Santos set a record in the first half of 2024, handling 89.1 million tons, a 10.2% increase over last year. June alone saw 16.3 million tons, a 4.6% annual growth. The port’s growth, particularly in agribusiness, doubled its annual movement over 15 years. Key exports included sugar (12 million tons, +48.6%), cellulose (3.8 million tons, +4.3%), meat (1.2 million tons, +27.5%), and coffee beans (1.2 million tons, +62%). Fuel oil and gasoline exports also rose. Container throughput reached 2.6 million TEUs, up 16.5%. Solid bulk cargo increased to 46.3 million tons, while liquid bulk rose to 9.6 million tons. The port accounted for 28.9% of Brazilian trade, with China as a major destination and São Paulo as the primary origin of cargo.
