SUGAR ENERGY COMPANIES RAISED R$13.52 BILLION WITH INCENTIVIZED DEBENTURES SINCE 2019

Since June 2019, a decree by the Ministry of Mines and Energy has allowed sugarcane mills to issue incentivized debentures, aiming to boost investments in sugarcane fields and ethanol production. The government anticipated around R$13 billion in annual investments. According to Anbima, sugarcane companies have raised R$13.52 billion through these debentures as of April 23, 2023, with a peak of R$4.4 billion in 2022. The highest monthly total occurred in November 2019, with R$1.48 million raised by Delta, Melhoramentos, and Raízen. After a pandemic-induced decline, demand rebounded in June 2021, with Ipiranga, São Martinho, and Tereos raising R$1.13 billion.
