The government will launch bidding documents in late 2025 for the 575 km Southeast Railway Arc, connecting Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro ports to create a vital agribusiness corridor. Vale will construct the initial 80 km Cariacica-Anchieta (ES) section and may transfer its BRL 2.5 billion investment to the winning bidder. The railway will eventually extend 170 km to São João da Barra (RJ) and potentially 325 km to Nova Iguaçu (RJ) under a 50-year concession. The Port of Açu (RJ), which has invested BRL 22 billion, sees the rail link as key to expanding grain handling and reinforcing Southeast logistics.
