SOUTH AMERICA BECOMES OUTLET FOR BRAZILIAN EXPORTS

After growing back to pre-pandemic levels in 2021, Brazilian exports to South America advanced this year faster than the total average of exports, also outpacing the growth rate of imports, in opposition to what happens in the country’s total balance. As a result, the trade surplus between Brazil and its neighboring countries reached US$ 7.97 billion from January to July this year, more than double the US$ 3.68 billion in the same period in 2021. As a consequence, the surplus with South American countries accounts for 20% of the total from January to July this year, up from 8.3% in the same months last year, according to statistics from the Department of Foreign Trade (Secex/ME).
