In Rio Grande’s industrial district, there are companies specializing in fertilizer production, and the materials used in this process arrive at the city’s port. Throughout 2022, vessels offloaded the chemical components used in manufacturing at the public pier.Among fertilizer input imports, Brazil bought 1,638,039 tons of phosphates and 1,402,290 tons of potassium chloride. The country also imported 972,720 tons of urea, 482,087 tons of ammonium sulfate, and 548,615 tons of the threefold compound Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK). The list of countries that act as fertilizer input suppliers are led by Saudi Arabia, with 575,099 tons, followed by China, with 519,997 tons; Canada, with 519,958 tons; Morocco, with 387,610 tons, Qatar with 330,854 tons; and Peru, with 295,965 tons.
