The Port of São Sebastião has received the top national award for percentage growth in cargo handling from the Ministry of Ports and Airports. This recognition, from the 6th Portos + Brasil Award, follows a 48% surge in volume to 1.5 million tons in 2024, driven primarily by sugar, drums, petroleum coke, malt, and barley. In 2025, 692 thousand tons have already been handled. Managed by Companhia Docas de São Sebastião, the port is poised for a major expansion with the upcoming lease of its SSB01 terminal. This upgrade is expected to quadruple the port’s annual capacity to 4.3 million tons (up 187%), including the construction of a new pier with two berths, expanding 262 thousand m² of area. A private partner is slated to invest BRL 660 million under a 35-year contract for the project. Leveraging one of Brazil’s deepest channels, the terminal is set to significantly enhance its role as a strategic foreign trade hub.
