The Santos Port Authority (APS) has opened a public tender to deepen the port’s navigation channel from 15 to 16 meters—the first such project in 13 years—with an estimated cost of R$324.1 million. The winning bidder will also maintain the channel for over two years, removing about 6.2 million m³ of sediment annually (38% more than current levels). The contract spans five years and includes environmental licensing studies, a basic engineering plan, and an executive project. Work on the 25-kilometer channel must begin within 30 days of the service order and be completed in six months. This initiative marks the first step toward a future 17-meter deepening concession and long-term maintenance.
