ROCK REMOVAL AT PEDRAL DO LOURENÇO BOOSTS LOGISTICS IN THE AMAZON AND STRENGTHENS BRAZIL’S CARGO TRANSPORT, SAYS NTC&LOGÍSTICA

On May 28, Ibama granted a license to remove rocks at Pedral do Lourenço, a key obstacle on the Tocantins River, enabling year-round navigation and advancing the Tocantins-Araguaia Waterway. The project is seen as transformative for logistics in northern Brazil, allowing more efficient, lower-cost, and eco-friendly transport of grains, minerals, and goods. NTC&Logística called it a historic step to integrate northern waterways with Brazil’s logistics network and connect the Midwest to northern ports like Vila do Conde. The waterway is expected to handle up to 20 million tons per year, with strict environmental safeguards in place.
