The Rio Grande do Sul port complex handled 6.89 million tonnes in the first two months of 2025, a 19.1% increase from 2024. The Port of Rio Grande alone recorded its highest early-year volume in a decade, processing 6.73 million tonnes. Bulk cargo dominated (57.1%), followed by general cargo (35.1%) and liquid bulk (7.1%). Key exports included corn, sulfates, meat, phosphates, soybeans, and pulp, with container throughput rising 38.54%. China led imports (339,240 tonnes), while Vietnam was the top export destination (642,316 tonnes). The Port of Pelotas moved 123,130 tonnes, mainly raw timber, while Porto Alegre handled 37,402 tonnes, mostly fertilizers and wheat.
