The government of Rio Grande do Sul has initiated the dredging of the São Gonçalo Channel in Pelotas this month. To achieve a minimum navigation depth of 5.5 meters, the project will remove roughly 457,000 m³ of sediment. This project is part of a BRL 731 million investment to restore navigability in state channels such as Pedras Brancas, Leitão, Furadinho, and Feitoria. Additionally, the Rio Grande Channel bidding procedure has been completed, involving the removal of over 15 million m³ in 15 months. These strategic works aim to improve waterway infrastructure, logistics competitiveness, and sustainable cargo transit, according to authorities. After the 2024 floods, Funrigs funded the Rio Grande Plan to recover the state and boost regional economy.
