PORT OF SÃO FRANCISCO DO SUL BEGINS DREDGING OF ACCESS CHANNEL

The Belgian dredger Galileo Galilei started operations on November 4 to restore the 14-meter depth of Babitonga Port Complex’s 22-km access channel, funded by R$ 37 million. The project, including dredging around the Port of São Francisco do Sul, will last 30-40 days, removing 1.6 million cubic meters of sediment for offshore disposal. The dredger, used in Balneário Camboriú in 2021, is 166 meters long with an 18,000-cubic-meter capacity. Port President Cleverton Vieira highlighted infrastructure investments totaling R$ 25 million in 2024, including IT, rail access, vehicles, and navigational aids. Dredging involves sediment suction and offshore disposal, improving navigation safety and vessel movement.
