PORT OF SANTOS WILL BENEFIT FROM RAILROAD LOGISTICS EXPANSION

VLI paid BRL 300 million for 12 new ES-43BBI locomotives to help Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica (FCA) enhance its logistical capacity. In 2023, FCA and the VLI-operated North-South Railway (FNS) hauled 43.8 billion ton-kilometers (tkm), handling 43 million tons in Brazilian ports, including 13 million at the Port of Santos. Nicolas Szwako, Director of Operations for the Southeast Corridor at VLI, emphasized the importance of increasing transportation capacity to meet future demand. FCA’s concession will be renewed for another 30 years, with freight handling estimated to expand by 30% to 40%. Tiplam, a VLI-operated port at the Port of Santos, handled 13 million tons in 2023, up 12% from the previous year.
