The Port of Santos set new records in August despite U.S. tariffs, handling 16.5 million tonnes of cargo, up 3.5% year-on-year, and reaching a monthly record of 518,100 TEUs (+8.9%). From January to August, container throughput rose 8% to 3.8 million TEUs. Exports of pulp (+55.8%), soybeans (+27%), juices (+20.8%), gasoline (+24.1%), and fuel oil (+15.3%) also grew, while vessel calls increased 9.6% to 489. Santos accounted for 29.9% of Brazil’s trade flows, up from 28.5% a year earlier. Although exports to the U.S. fell 5.79% in August due to tariffs, total exports rose 8.55%, driven by a 63.25% surge to China. APS president Anderson Pomini credited the results to coordinated efforts across the sector and federal diplomacy.
