PORT OF RIO GRANDE RECORDS BEST HALF-YEAR RESULT IN FOUR YEARS

Driven by a rebound in operations and strong foreign trade, the ports of Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre handled 28.3 million tons from January to July 2025. The Port of Rio Grande moved 82% of this volume, handling 23.3 million tons for its best performance since 2021, growing 4% when compared to last year. Container activity surged by 25.8% to 547,157 TEUs. The movement was led by dry bulk like grains and fertilizers, followed by general and liquid cargo. Key trade partners for exports were China, Vietnam, and Indonesia (12.7 million tons), while imports (6 million tons) were led by China, Argentina, and Russia. While Pelotas saw growth, Porto Alegre’s volume fell significantly. Officials credit investments in infrastructure and logistics for the overall positive results.
