PORT OF RECIFE REPORTS 43% SURGE IN CARGO THROUGHPUT IN EARLY 2024

The Port of Recife experienced a 43% increase in cargo throughput in the first four months of 2024, handling 649,716 tonnes compared to 454,048 tonnes in the same period last year. This growth, amounting to an additional 195,668 tonnes, was driven by key commodities such as sugar, soda ash, steel coils, fertilizers, malt, wheat, fuel, corn, ethanol, and miscellaneous materials. Delmiro Gouveia, President of the Port, credited this success to the collective efforts of the port’s stakeholders. Andrei Lira, Commercial Director, expects this upward trend to continue, projecting a 30% overall increase for the year. Month-by-month comparisons highlight substantial gains across all months.
