PORT OF PARANAGUÁ BREAKS SOLID BULK OPERATIONS RECORD

Despite frequent rains in early 2024, the Port of Paranaguá saw a 10% rise in solid bulk cargo throughput. Rainfall in the municipality increased by 7%, leading to 54 rainy days in the first half of the year. Gabriel Perdonsini Vieira, Operations Director at Portos do Paraná, explained that handling solid bulk during rain is challenging due to risks of mold and dampness. Despite 30% operational downtime due to weather, the port managed to increase productivity, moving 16.8 million tonnes between January and May, with significant growth in soybean and sugar exports. Container operations also rose, especially in frozen meat throughput.
