The Port of Itaqui set a new operational record with five undockings and six dockings, including five simultaneous maneuvers. This achievement was enabled by the liberalization of the mooring service market in August 2022, which previously allowed only one company to handle up to five ships per window. The liberalization significantly increased the port’s operational capacity. The Association of Pilots of the State of Maranhão (APEM) coordinated the complex maneuvers involving multiple resources like tugboats. Three mooring companies—Internacional Marítima, Smart Sea, and Venus—handled the maneuvers across berths 101-106. Operations were carefully timed with tidal conditions, demonstrating the port’s enhanced efficiency and innovation in management.
