PORT OF ITAQUI BREAKS HISTORICAL RECORD IN SOYBEAN MOVEMENT

The Port of Itaqui achieved a new soybean export record in May 2024, handling 2,151,821 tons, beating the previous record of 2,017,627 tons set in June 2023. This amount accounted for 92.2% of the mechanized dry bulk handling in the month and 82.8% for the whole year. The Maranhão Grain Terminal (TEGRAM) handled 1,499,402 tons (69.68%), whereas VLI handled 652,419 tons (30.32%). In May, the port had the greatest number of soybean vessels in a month, with 33 berths open. Monthly shipment productivity reached 1,600 tons per hour, the greatest level in the previous three years. China was the main destination, getting 1,830,318 tons. Gilberto Lins, the president of Itaqui, stated plans for more investments to meet the rising demand.
