PORT OF ITAJAÍ SURGES, ALREADY 127% ABOVE ALL LAST YEAR

The Port of Itajaí in Santa Catarina recorded a 127% surge in cargo handling from January to August, reaching 2.5 million tons, more than double the same period in 2024. The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) credits this growth to its modernization initiatives. The government will submit the technical modeling for the terminal’s definitive lease to Antaq and the TCU in November and plans to concession the access channel in 2026, following the successful Port of Paranaguá auction model. MPor has also begun creating the Companhia Docas de Santa Catarina, highlighting the port’s national economic importance. According to Minister Silvio Costa Filho, this new structure will modernize operations, enhance efficiency and safety, and secure the investments needed to rank Itajaí among Brazil’s top ports.
