The Port of Itajaí (SC) is now under the temporary administration of the Bahia Dock Company (Codeba) following the departure of the Port Authority of Santos, until the creation of the new federal state-owned company, Docas de Santa Catarina. The measure, announced by Ports Secretary Alex Ávila, aims to ensure autonomy and strengthen management and investments in Brazil’s third-largest port complex. Formerly managed by the municipality until 2024, the port faced financial and operational difficulties before being federalized. The creation of Docas is a federal priority and part of a plan that includes the concession of the port’s access channel—currently under review by the Federal Audit Court (TCU)—to enhance operational efficiency, guarantee continuous dredging, and consolidate Itajaí’s strategic role in the national economy.
