PORT OF IMBITUBA’S HISTORIC EXPANSION NOW ACCOMODATES LARGER SHIPS, BOOSTING SANTA CATARINA LOGISTICS

Pier 3 at the Port of Imbituba is receiving a BRL 95 million upgrade, the largest since 1979, with completion set for 2027. The pier will be expanded from 245 to 271 meters, allowing it to handle ships up to 270 meters long and boosting cargo handling capacity. It is divided into four phases: structural reinforcement, dolphin building, paving and operational system enhancements, and the last stage may result in a temporary halt of activity for up to five months. The project adheres to tight environmental controls, including constant monitoring and specific efforts to safeguard right whales that live in the region.
