PORT CONCESSIONS IN BRAZIL ATTRACT R$ 30 BILLION IN INVESTMENTS

The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) announced that port sector concessions from 2023 to 2026 will total R$ 30 billion in investments, covering more than 60 auctions aimed at modernizing Brazilian ports and logistics infrastructure. Minister Silvio Costa Filho highlighted the social and economic impact of these concessions, citing GDP growth, reduced unemployment, and increased national production. Key projects include the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel (R$ 6 billion), the Tecon Santos 10 container terminal (R$ 5.6 billion), and the first dredging concession for the Port of Paranaguá (R$ 1 billion). MPor also plans concessions for waterways, including the Paraguay, Madeira, Tocantins, Tapajós, and Lagoa Mirim rivers, and promotes the BR do Mar program for coastal shipping. In aviation, investments in regional airports and air network expansion total R$ 5.75 billion, strengthening national air transport. The Port of Santos, Latin America’s largest, handled 179.8 million tons in 2024, generating R$ 200 billion in revenue.
