Petrobras began testing marine fuel (bunker) with 24% biodiesel to enhance the use of renewable raw materials in ship and vessel fuel supplies. Petrobras Biocombustibleis (PBIO) in Minas Gerais produces the biodiesel. This is the second test, following a successful pilot with a 10% increase. Petrobras is testing higher biodiesel blends in bunker fuel due to the features of the vessels’ engines, which are less fuel sensitive than heavy vehicles, with Proconve P8 engines – the Air Pollution Control Program for Motor Vehicles. Increased engine demand raises fuel quality and specification standards. The National Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANP) amended the most recent road biodiesel standards this year.
