PETROBRAS BOARD GREENLIGHTS FERTILIZER PLANT PROJECT IN MATO GROSSO DO SUL

Petrobras has announced the resumption of work on the Nitrogen Fertilizer Unit (UFN-III) in Três Lagoas (MS), with an investment of BRL 3.5 billion. The facility, which has been shut down since 2015, is set to resume operations in 2028. The decision followed a reassessment that verified the project’s economic viability, and it is now part of the company’s Strategic Plan. Mostly serving the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Paraná, and São Paulo, the unit will produce roughly 1.2 million tons of urea and 70 thousand tons of ammonia annually. The resumption highlights Petrobras’s current emphasis on funding industries outside of oil exploration, which is in line with Lula administration policies.
