PETROBRAS APPROVES REACTIVATION OF FERTILIZER PLANT IN PARANA

Petrobras has approved the reactivation of the Araucária Nitrogenados S.A. (Ansa) fertilizer facility in Paraná, which had been idle since 2020. The facility is expected to reopen in the second half of 2025. Ansa can re-hire former employees after receiving consent from the Superior Labor Court (TST). The decision follows Petrobras’ revised strategic plans, which now include fertilizer production in its 2024-2028 Strategic Plan. Ansa can produce 720,000 tons of urea, 475,000 tons of ammonia, and 450,000 m³ of ARLA 32 annually. The facility was shut down in January 2020 owing to ongoing financial losses, including BRL 250 million between January and September 2019, with predicted losses surpassing BRL 400 million in 2020. The high cost of raw materials and the difficulties of selling the unit contributed to the shutdown.
