The Port of Paranaguá set a new corn-loading record with the vessel MV Minoan Pioneer shipping 77,000 tonnes, made possible by the recent draft increase from 13.1 to 13.3 meters, which allows each ship to load up to 1,500 more tonnes. From January to November 2025, the port handled 4.57 million tonnes of corn, a 351% jump from 2024, driven by record harvests and strong demand from Asia and the Middle East. Upcoming deepening of the Access Channel—part of a R$ 1.2 billion concession—will raise draft to 15.5 meters, enabling vessels to load an additional 14,000 tonnes of bulk cargo or 1,000 containers. The expansion strengthens Paranaguá’s role as a strategic hub for Brazilian agribusiness by improving logistics efficiency, supporting large harvests, and boosting competitiveness in global markets.
