Paraná-based ports reached a remarkable milestone in May 2023, as the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina achieved a record throughput of 6,125,887 tonnes of cargo. This exceptional performance can be attributed to both import products and, notably, exports. The previous record, set in May 2021, stood at 6,081,354 tonnes. However, the new achievement surpassed this mark by 0.73%. A notable 29% export growth primarily drove impressive results compared to 2022. This year’s May exports reached a significant figure of 4,176,175 tonnes, surpassing the 3,242,924 tonnes recorded in May 2022. Luiz Fernando Garcia, the director-president of Portos do Paraná, emphasized that the outstanding performance was primarily due to the movement of bulk cargo, including soy, soymeal, and sugar, as well as general cargo.
