ORANGE PRICES BOOM IN SEPTEMBER

Sweet orange prices climbed in September, according to data from Esalq/USP’s Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea). Despite a large supply due to the variety’s peak harvest, the industry played a critical role in limiting market availability. The industry received a sizable percentage of the harvested fruit output. In nominal terms, the average price for sweet oranges in September was BRL 47.07 per 40.8-kilogram box, up 3.7% from August and 18.4% from the same month the previous year. For October, the market is forecast to maintain restricted availability, with the sector efficiently absorbing supplies.
