NORTHERN ARC PORTS BOOST ROLE IN CORN EXPORTS AS FREIGHT PRICE DECLINES

Brazil’s Nothern Arc ports – Itacoatiara (AM), Santarém (PA), Santana (AP), Barcarena/Vila do Conde (PA), and São Luiz (MA) – account for 47.2% of Brazil’s grain exports. Data from the National Supply Company’s Logistics Bulletin (Conab) shows an increase of 41.6% compared to January to November 2023. November’s freight rates dropped in the most producing areas. Routes starting in Sorriso had values decline of up to 11% to Alto Araguaia and 7% to Santos in Mato Grosso, the largest exporting state, Conab reports. One of the principal passageways in Brazil, the Sorriso-Santos route closes in November at BRL 420/ton.
