On August 22, Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) launched a new intermodal sugar terminal in Pederneiras, São Paulo. The facility has a daily intake capacity of 6,000 tons and can ship 8,500 tons by rail, for an annual total of one million tons. Spanning 120,000 m², the site features a grain warehouse with 90,000 tons of storage and a minimum monthly handling capacity of 150,000 tons. This terminal significantly increases the use of rail for transporting sugar to the Port of Santos, a route previously dominated by trucks. It enables LDC to double the share of its sugar moved by train in Brazil to 50%. The company states the hub enhances logistical efficiency, provides a strategic road-and-rail option, and integrates with its Guarujá Sugar Exporting Terminal (TEAG) operations. This move creates synergies with grain terminals and reinforces LDC’s commitment to agribusiness and competitiveness in foreign trade.
