NEW DIRECT SHIPPING LANE LINKS CHINA AND BRAZIL, BOOSTING TRADE AND FOSTERING GROWTH IN NORTHERN AREAS

The new direct shipping lane between China and Brazil opened this week, connecting Zhuhai’s Port of Gaolan to Santana (AP) and Salvador (BA). The program advances trade links between the two countries, with logistical, economic, and geopolitical effects, especially for Brazil’s North and Northeast. It also strengthens the country’s strategic partnership with China. The new lane represents economic and scientific collaboration due to Brazilian-Chinese bilateral agreements. The direct connection between Brazil and Asia will increase access to South American markets, boosting Brazilian ports’ global logistics significance. The new corridor connects key agricultural and mining regions, positioning Santana and Salvador as major hubs for soybean, iron ore, beef, and cellulose exports, while facilitating Asian imports of industrial and tech goods.
