After the maintenance dredging work was concluded at the Vitória Bay channel, vessels with a draft of 12.5 meters resumed circulating on those waters. Before that, the maximum draft allowed was 11.2 meters. In fact, the conclusion of the work left the channel in the right conditions for receiving vessels with a draft of 13 meters. On August 22, Codesa will pass the baton to Quadra Capital, which won the privatization contract in a bidding process earlier this year. The new owner must then contact the Navy. According to Júlio Castiglioni, the ex-president of Codesa, now acting as a consultant to Quadra, a half a meter increase, which may seem negligible, significantly increase competitiveness at the Port of Vitória. “With a 13 meters draft, the Port of Vitória will be able to receive 94% of the world’s Panamax vessels with their full capacity. Currently, the 12.5 draft limits these vessels from entering the port area with 25% less cargo. That is a huge difference with a lot of weight”.
