MS 2024/25 HARVEST: CORN HARVEST ADVANCES TO 42,7%

As of August 1, 42.7% of the estimated corn area in Mato Grosso do Sul, or 897 hectares, has been harvested, with the southern region leading at 46.2% and the northern region at 29.9%, according to Aprosoja/MS’s Siga-MS Project. Crop conditions are generally good across most regions, except for the southeast and southern border, which show below-average potential. Weather forecasts predict sun with possible rain and isolated storms. Late July winds damaged about 8 hectares in central and southern areas, causing 20–40% production losses in municipalities like Maracaju and Aral Moreira. Experts note that recent rains complicate harvest timing: wet corn must be dried before storage, increasing costs, while delaying harvest risks further losses from adverse weather. Producers must carefully monitor grain moisture and forecasts to decide whether to harvest early or wait.
