MERCOSUR-EU DEAL COULD BOOST BRAZILIAN EXPORTS BY USD 7 BILLION, APEXBRASIL PROJECTS

Based on calculations by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), the Mercosur-European Union agreement would open access to a market worth nearly USD 22 trillion, potentially boosting Brazilian exports by USD 7 billion. ApexBrasil’s president, Jorge Viana, emphasized the agreement’s strategic importance, noting it arrives amid a weakening of multilateral frameworks and increasing global trade fragmentation. He highlighted the balanced and significant economic opportunity it presents for Brazilian exporters, calling the EU “Brazil’s second-largest trade partner after China, and the most balanced, with trade flows nearly equal in both directions.” More than one-third of Brazil’s exports to the European bloc consist of processed industrial goods, many of which originate from the agribusiness sector.
