MAJOR EXPANSION PLANNED FOR PORT OF SANTOS WITH BILLION-DOLLAR INVESTMENT; AUCTION SET FOR THIS YEAR

Silvio Costa Filho, Minister of Ports and Airports, has announced the launch of the bidding process for the concession of the access channel to the Port of Santos (SP), involving a projected investment of BRL 6.45 billion. The initiative includes dredging the channel to deepen it from 15 to 17 meters, enabling the operation of larger ships with greater efficiency and environmental sustainability. The chosen company will be responsible for construction, maintenance, and navigational safety. Modeled after the already TCU-approved Port of Paranaguá project, this effort aims to attract investors and enhance competitiveness. The initiative is expected to boost regional development, generate employment, and expand the cargo handling capacity of Brazil’s leading port, which handles about 25% of the nation’s foreign trade.
