LULA SANCTIONS THE FUEL OF THE FUTURE LAW WITH THREE VETOES

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the Fuel of the Future law, enhancing sustainable mobility in Brazil. The law proposes increasing biodiesel in diesel, mandating higher ethanol levels in gasoline, and creating programs for sustainable aviation fuel, green diesel, and biomethane. It also sets a framework for carbon capture and storage. However, Lula vetoed three provisions on Finance and Energy Ministry recommendations: one regarding federal tax calculation methods, another on the National Energy Policy Council’s role in biomethane acquisition, and a third on ANP’s authority over carbon capture, to prevent legal overlaps with existing laws.
