The Itajaí Port Complex recorded a 26% increase in cargo throughput in January 2025, reaching 1.27 million tonnes compared to just over 1 million tonnes in January 2024. Imports represented 54% (690,700 tonnes), while exports made up 46% (581,600 tonnes), both rising 26%. Containerized cargo grew 21% to 117,800 TEUs. Public berth operations also rose 28%, totaling 47,900 tonnes, with cruise ship arrivals standing out—13 out of 17 vessel calls were passenger ships. The port complex handled 102 vessels, up 28% from 2024. The president of APS, Fernando Pomini, credited the growth to cooperation between public management and private operators, emphasizing local participation in port administration. The port itself moved 359,900 tonnes, while private terminals handled 912,400 tonnes, reinforcing Itajaí’s strategic importance in Brazil’s maritime sector.
