IMPORTS GROW AND REDUCE TRADE BALANCE IN JUNE BY 33%

In June, Brazil’s trade balance had a $6.711 billion surplus, 33.4% lower than last year due to increased imports, according to Secex. Exports totaled $29.043 billion (-1.9%) and imports $22.332 billion (+14.4%). Year-to-date, the surplus is $42.309 billion (-5.2%). Export volumes grew 2%, but prices fell 2.2%. Import volumes increased by 22.3%, indicating strong economic activity. Secex revised the trade balance surplus projection for the year from $73.5 billion to $79.2 billion. Exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau rose 4.65%, while agricultural exports fell 3.71%. Extractive industry exports increased 15.26%, and manufacturing fell 6.76%. Agricultural imports surged 50.69%, extractive industry imports dropped 4.56%, and manufacturing imports rose 15.24%.
