HISTORIC AUGUST: PORT OF ITAQUI ACHIEVES OVER 3.8 MILLION TONS IN HANDLING

In August 2025, the Port of Itaqui in Maranhão set a new monthly record by handling 3.85 million tons of cargo, a 7% increase compared to August 2024. The port’s cumulative volume for the year reached 24.9 million tons, exceeding the 2024 amount by 8% and surpassing the annual plan by 5%. Soybeans were a key contributor, with monthly volume hitting 1.7 million tons (a 9% annual increase), driven by higher agricultural production and exports. Other significant gains were seen in fertilizers (+21%), copper (+10%), and liquid bulk, which grew 12% to 751 thousand tons. According to president Isa Mary Mendonça, this performance reveals the port’s operational effectiveness and solidifies Itaqui’s strategic position as a major national logistics hub, enhancing Maranhão’s connection to international markets.
